Climbing on Multi Pitch Route

Mountime | 13 apr 2023 |

Multi-pitch climbing is a type of rock climbing that requires the climber to ascend a route that is divided into multiple pitches or sections of climbing. Each pitch is typically between 20 and 250 feet long and requires the climber to belay their partner from the ground up.

Multi-pitch climbing is more challenging than single-pitch climbing, as climbers must manage their gear, the terrain, and their partner. It requires an advanced knowledge of climbing and safety skills. Climbers must be familiar with the proper technique for setting up a belay system, tying in, and rappelling. Additionally, they must know how to safely navigate different types of terrain, such as overhangs, cracks, and ledges. Multi-pitch climbing is a great way to experience the thrill of the outdoors while challenging yourself mentally and physically. It can also be a great way to build camaraderie among climbers as they work together to complete the route!

Whether or not multi-pitch climbing is better than single-pitch climbing is a matter of personal preference. Usually, people already climb single-pitch for a long time and want to try something different. Multi-pitch climbing requires more advanced skills and is more physically and mentally challenging than single-pitch climbing. It is great for experienced climbers looking for a challenge and climbers who want to experience the outdoors and build camaraderie with their partners. On the other hand, single-pitch climbing is great for climbers of all levels and is typically less time-consuming and more straightforward. Ultimately, it is up to the individual to decide which type of climbing best suits their needs and interests.

The Lake Garda area in Italy - the Mountime's basecamp - is a popular destination for multi-pitch climbers due to its abundant routes and breathtaking scenery. Mountime's guides recommend these routes, which are suitable for climbers who want to approach climbing.

  • Arco: Cercando la trincea, Pezol wall, V+
  • Santa Massenza Gran dihedral, VI-
  • Via del missile VI+ - Monte Casale, Diedro Manolo VI+ - Monte Dain and the unfinished VII Monte Colodri - Arco. The latter is more challenging historic and modern routes.

We would also like to mention a few alpine pearls in the Brenta Dolomites:

  • Normale al campanile Basso in the heart of the Brenta Dolomites
  • Via Armani, Torre d'ambiez in the beautiful Val d'ambiez
