Cevedale

Ascent from the Larcher Hut

A majestic and easily recognisable ice mountain, Monte Cevedale rises between Trentino Alto Adige and Lombardy and is completely surrounded by glaciers. The climbs are technically easy on all sides, as the slopes are generally gentle, so all that is required is a good physical workout and a little acclimatisation to the altitude, as at 3769 m, it is the third highest peak in the massif to which it gives its name.

Season

June to September

Suitable for those who already walk in the mountains and want to have their first experience on a glacier, or for those who want to refine their roped progression technique. We propose the ascent from the Trentino side, from Rifugio Larcher 2680 m, a wilder and less frequented ascent than the one from Rifugio Casati.

Cevedale

Cevedale 3769 m.

We set off in the afternoon from Malga Mare 1950 m to tackle the pleasant path that winds its way up through the Swiss stone pines until we reach Pian Venezia, where the vegetation ends and we can admire the splendid glacial valley crossed by the stream that carries glacier water down into the valley. We walk to the peaceful Larcher hut 2608 m where we enjoy a good dinner and then go to bed early.

The next morning we set off early, it is still dark outside. We walk in silence until we reach the beginning of the glacier. It is dawn, and we calmly put on our crampons and strap ourselves in, so that we can start the ascent safely. We climb slowly but steadily, so as to accustom our bodies to the altitude above 3000 metres. We reach the saddle below the summit, where we can see the roped parties ascending from the Rifugio Casati, and from here we are soon at the summit, where we can enjoy the beautiful view we have definitely gained.

The return journey is along the same route, the sun has softened the snow surface so it is easier to descend. We arrive at the refuge just in time to enjoy a good plate of canederli and recover our strength before descending to the valley, tired but happy.
