The Alta Via del Granito is a circular route of three days on granite rock that surrounds the Cima d’Asta - Cime di Rava group, in the Lagorai mountain group. The Alta Via runs through a network of ancient paths and former military roads, dating back to the First World War, connecting the only two refuges in the group. Three days of easy walking among beautiful natural landscapes, severe memories of the Great War, huts and pastures, exemplary evidence of the ancient pact of man with nature.

The length of the itinerary is approx 28 km, with a total height difference of almost 2030 meters. The trails are easy to walk but are not to be underestimated for the physical effort involved.

Alta via del Granito

The “Alta via del granito” itinerary

Day 1: from Malga Sorgazza we hike in the direction of Cima d’Asta, we ascend to Rifugio Brentari where we spend the night.
Day 2: from Rifugio Brentari we hike up to forcella Socede and we descend to forcella Magna. We climb up to Lasteati lakes and follow the path flancking the Tombola Nera peak. We then descend to Rifugio Caldenave where we spend the night. Today's hike is mainly downhill, with some gentle uphills across the trenches and outposts of the First World War.
Day 3: we complete the loop by returining to Malga Sorgazza along Cimon Rava, passing by the Costa Brunella Lake and following the war boundary lines. Today's hike includes some technical secions surrounded by beautiful landscapes.

*optional: it is possible to add one day to the itinerary and hike the “Anello del Zimon” (Zimon ring), a new path that explores the north face of Cima d’Asta to its summit, thus getting back to Rifugio Brentari for the overnight.
