Ice Climbing Basic Course

3 days of full immersion on the most beautiful ice falls in Trentino and beyond.

The best way to warm up on cold winter days is to climb an ice fall. On this course you will learn how to apply technique and strength, gentleness and balance while making your way up frozen ice falls. It may sound daunting to first timers, but with the right coaching and guidance by our qualified Mountain Guides you will succeed and enjoy every minute of it!

When it comes to Ice Climbing many tend to dismiss the idea saying ‘I’ve never done it” or “it’s way to cold”, to them we say ‘think again”!
The vertical dimension of ice climbing is one full of surprises waiting to be discovered, and with this course we would like to open up the opportunity to embrace the excitement and thrills that this sport provides.

Our Mountain Guides will lead you step by step, explaining the correct use of the gear and providing invaluable coaching tips to ensure that you not only learn the basic skills, but give you confidence to continue on your own.   
 
Our guides will select the most suitable location according to the abilities of participants. No previous experience is required, only willingness to learn and good physical condition.

During the course you will be taught:

  •     Progression techniques on ice and correct use of ice axes and crampon
  •     Safety rules and techniques, for you and your climbing partner
  •     Basics use of ice screws for progression and for belaying

 

Costs conditions and materials

Each Guide can take a maximum of 5 people

Included in the fee: the Guide service, liability insurance, and the necessary climbing gear.

Not included in the fee: anything not mentioned in "included". Transfer costs will be divided between participants.
Possibility to stay overnight in a local Rifugio, to be discussed with the guide and participants.






Equipment provided by Mountime: Harness, helmet, ice ax and crampons.

Personal equipment: adequate warm clothing (preferably layered) including a waterproof layer, warm gloves and hat, mountaineering boots (preferably crampons compatible), backpack with flask for hot drinks, pack-lunch and energy snacks.

Should you require specific gear please let us know, we will do our best to help you, and in case we will refer you to one of our recommended ski rental shops.
