The youngest Italian person on the roof of Europe

At 12 years old on Mont Blanc, Federico Tomasi is the youngest Italian on the Roof of Europe. He is led by our Trentino mountain guide, Matteo Faletti. 

This feat was achieved on 25 June, never has such a young Italian climbed so high. Giving the news on social media was his father Fabio: 'At 07.51 am my little boy, accompanied by the mountain guide Matteo Faletti, after eight consecutive hours of walking (he left at midnight from the Francesco Gonella Refuge) reached the summit of Mont Blanc, 4,810 metres, the roof of Europe. I am thrilled and moved. He did it from the Italian route, the longest and most tiring of the three leading to the summit'. The long descent to the valley culminated in Chamonix, France. There his father was waiting for him: 'Federico was speechless, happy but tired. Tried above all by the great temperature range: he had set off from Courmayeur with 24° and at the tip it was -7°. More than 30° difference'. The ascent was brought forward by a month "because the experts," he explains, "told us that given the particularly hot year, it was advisable to do it as soon as possible.

 It was no small challenge "because instead of two months after the end of school to dedicate to training, we had to make do with just one," says the father.

The day of the ascent is splendid. Under the sun and a cloudless sky, the finish is a triumph of white and blue. Even before Mont Blanc, the young Tomasi had already demonstrated determination, courage and passion. At the age of 11, he became a record-breaking climber: still in Valle d'Aosta, the Alpine land of the Four-Thousanders, last year he had reached the summit of the Matterhorn (4,478), the youngest Italian to do so. Next target? "Cime di Lavaredo in Trentino, for a change".
